Trump’s auto tariffs on EU carmakers leave shippers with few alternatives to air freight when quick turnaround is needed.
The corridor’s air cargo volume, measured in chargeable weight, rose 13% year-on-year, nearing peak season levels. As a result, air cargo spot rates continued their upward trajectory, increasing 27% year-on-year to USD 2.61 per kg.
However, the trajectory ahead is unclear. As airlines adjust to their summer schedules, a potential shift in market sentiment with decline in transatlantic passenger demand could increase available cargo capacity. However, if both passenger and cargo volumes decline, airlines may respond by downgrading or diverting capacity.
